Trouble's Diagnosis

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

Quick update - she's doing great, has another of those Dr F famous incisions, the man should have been a plastic surgeon. She's got a little razor burn we're having to keep her from scratching, but she's eating well, moving around well, and back to her bossy self. :rolleyes2:

Oh and this will blow your socks away - total cost for the consult the night before and surgery was - Are you ready for this one???

Send him on, one more won't hurt a thing. And I guess I'm suppose to keep him until he's fully recovered?

What I learned today.

As I was sorting through piles of paperwork relating to Trouble - allergy info from the specialist, early veterinary records, rabies certificates, etc., I discovered she is a year older than we thought. Her first rabies vaccination & spay certificate are from 1998 and all this time I've been going on the assumption she was a September 1999 puppy. She will be 12 in September, no wonder the poor old lady is starting to have mobility issues.

Bless Trouble's old lady heart!

I made the same mistake with Guido's age about 5 years ago when we moved here and got established with a new vet. I had to let them know I'd given them the wrong year of birth after I found out.

How is her incision? I hope it's healing nicely.

The incision is already healed, Dr F. always uses internal sutures and glues the top layer like a plastic surgeon to Keep them from scratching and causing damage.
Even though her incision was 3 inches long the razor burn from the hair removal was the only issue she had. :)

Trouble was featured today in the Tripawds Blog. It talks about the diet she is on and how important it is to keep a tripawd slim.

Just a quick update she's had some pretty severe mobility issues - two instances where she wouldn't move at all. We were instructed to get the weight off and start Rimadyl. The initial dose was large enough to get her back on her feet, but once she was mobile to back it off to a minimal maintenance dose. We have to be cautious, the Rimadyl caused her liver enzymes to rise once before. We were seeing a definite boost with the introduction of the Rimadyl. She was moving about much easier.

She currently is on prednisone because of a place she chewed raw on her hip; of course that meant stopping the Rimady prior to the prednisone. There have been awesome results with the prednisone for the reason we gave it to her AND for the mobility. She is definitely getting about well right now - a combined result, I am sure, of the meds, the weight loss, and the additional supplements. I plan to take her in for an official 'weigh in' on Friday. I'll post the actual weight loss.

We need to get some pics of her while she's feeling so well. Sunday she was RUNNING around the yard! Will post pics when we get a couple.

I'm glad the pred is working. You may or may not have read my post about Hogan who had lymphoma but he had really bad arthritic hips and they put him on pred and it did nothing for the pain. I'm glad to hear it is heling Trouble :) Great article too! I'm excited for the weigh in update and you definitely need to get pictures of her!!!!!!!!!

I guess that is a question I need to ask. I will either need to up the amount or add something to it (or both) to boost the calories enough to maintain.

It is official - Trouble lost 12.1 pounds total. We started at 68.8 and are down to 56.7. She is now back to her post chemo weight. It is time to maintain. The choice is to give her more of what she is already eating or switch her back to kibble.

I guess I could also mix the two. Are any of you mixing a home cooked with kibble? Looking for opinions on maintaining....anyone?

I have mixed kibble with Sofie's food in the past... as far as maintaining her you could put her back on kibble just obviously feed her less than what you were offering before [if it contributed to weight gain.]. Either option seems fair enough, if she seems to gain weight on the kibble you could always try canned - less filler and carbs.

Oh and I second wanting PICTURES!!!!!!
