Losing Eye Rim Pigment?

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby fenella » June 21st, 2010, 2:38 pm

Nittany is losing pigment on the eye rim of her left eye. It started a couple of weeks ago, on the inside corner of the eye. We thought perhaps she got a small scratch or bug bite. Today, I noticed another pink spot forming in the center of her lower rim (normally liver colored).
Her whites are clear. No discharge. Not scratching at it. She does get "winter nose" but this seems different since it is only one eye and didn't happen last summer.
Posted pics on another board I frequent, asking the same question (couldn't figure out how to resize them for here)

Any ideas? :|

I'm not familiar with losing pigment. My boy Piper had pink pigment that slowly got more black freckles.
I hope it is nothing to worry about. Please update.

My pup's pigment changed pretty dramatically around his eyes (and belly) when he was 2 years old. The vet said: "it happens. No big deal." Vanya added pigment (new spots!) rather than losing it, so it wouldn't hurt to ask your vet.

I'm not sure what causes this, but my Mom's Pug had this happen when he was around 2-3. He has brownish spots on the whites of his eyes (which are not so white anymore  ).

Vet isn't concerned, he's had it for years, and it hasn't had any ill effects. :|
