Crate turning

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Ok, so a recent conversation at work has me thinking... I'm doing a fun little mini-project poll on one particular behavior in dogs and I would like you guys to observe your dogs for me.

The question is this: Do your dogs turn clockwise or counter-clockwise once they enter their crates? Is it consistently one way or the other, or do they switch things up?

So far in my own observations, Sidney Bean seems to consistently turn counter-clockwise. Piper has been inconsistent, usually turning clockwise but not every time. Shades has not been observed yet.

Watch your dogs and let me know!

I have one consistent clock wise dog, and a couple that mostly go clockwise but also go counter clockwise on a regular basis.

My guys don't crate often...but we're flyballin' this weekend...so I'll check this out when we're there tomorrow!

It will be interesting to see if their crate behavior mimicks which way their box turn goes.

Counter-clockwise for my three.
Interesting. I never would have paid much attention had you not asked.

Tested them out on the crate that was set up in the office over the weekend (for Oreo...so John could get to her).

The first try, I stood in front of the crate opening. Second try, I stood to the left of the crate door (facing the crate).

Xander turned right at first, then turned left.

Score turned right at first, then turned left.

Inara went right both times.

Fig turned right at first, then turned left.

Bean turned right, then wouldn't go back in the crate.

Rip turned right both times.

Now...the dogs that turn to their right naturally in flyball are: Xander, Score, Bean. The ones that turn to their left in flyball are: Rip, Inara and Fig.

Make of that what you will...;)

I'll try and remember to see what they do at flyball this weekend...when they go in and out of their crates more often.

Oh yeah...and Fry-cat turned to the left, laid down and wouldn't get up 8)
