HELP! Baby Bird....

Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!

Postby katiek0417 » May 26th, 2010, 6:08 am

Okay, so I was out cleaning the yard this morning (yes, this early)...and I went to scoop something in the corner and realized it was a baby bird. He must've fallen out of a tree...barely any feathers on his head...

I called Greg, and he told me how to catch him - I couldn't just leave him (I have dogs that would kill him and I have a cat that would kill him)...

I put him in a spare chinchilla cage...

But now what? What the heck do I do with a baby bird? I'm trying to find a nature center, but I don't even know how to find one of those! What can I do for him in the meantime?

Keep him in a warm, dark, and quiet spot so he doesn't get too stressed. It really all depends on how old he is... can you post a pic? Can he fly at all?
If you know where the nest is you could try putting him back... sometimes that works, and the Mom will continue to take care of him/her.

Check the yellow pages for "wildlife rehabilitation" listings also. Around here, if it's *just a regular bird*, people pretty much don't make any special efforts to save them. :sad2:

Maybe call these people... they should be able to point you in the right direction?

I'm in Maryland...I already had one place turn me down...
My friend, Ariel, who has taken care of baby birds before gave me some info/tips on what/how to feed it...so I'm about to try that...

Here's a pic...

Frisky's Wildlife Sanctuary is where I take all of my injured wildlife...(bunny, ducks, etc)

They're in Woodstock, MD...northern HoCo...north of 70 and 29.
