and I know there's at least one in every police department, but jeebus... did he have to come and visit ME???
The boys were hanging out on the (gated) porch this morning while I was doing dishes, and when they both started barking I went out to see what was up... found a cop car in my drive-way, and a PO standing at my gate by the fence. The boys were MAJORLY excited, all butt wiggles and wagging tails - yay, we have a visitor!!!
They stopped barking when I came out on the porch, but Faust hopped around like a goat on crack... pure happiness... Seppel sat and just watched.
Me: Can I help you, Sir?
Cop: I'm here to serve a warrant. Is so-and-so home?
Me: So-and-so doesn't live here. He was a former tenant over a year ago and moved in November of 2008.
Cop: Oh... okay.
Me: Is there anything else I can do for you?
Cop: Uhm... your dogs... they look pretty big and mean. Pit Bulls... right?
Me (a little dumbfounded at this point): Yes, they're Pit Bulls... but they aren't mean. If I invited you in the yard they'd be very happy to meet you.
Cop: Yeah, well... I'm glad you came outside when you did, so I didn't have to do something about them.
Me (getting annoyed): What do you mean... DO something about them? They are on MY gated porch, not bothering anyone.
Cop: Well... how is anyone supposed to come up to your house, with THOSE dogs out?
Me: If I hear them barking I come out and check... like I just did... soooo...
Cop: Well... if you hadn't been home... I would have to defend myself.
Me (REALLY irritated now): My dogs aren't out alone when I'm not home, ever. And besides, they aren't guard dogs... they are VERY people friendly.
*All the while Fausts tail is smacking Seppel in the face very hard because he's dying to go and say 'hi."*
Cop: Do they have their rabies shots?
Me: Yes.
Cop: You took them to a vet? Are they up-to-date?
Me: YES.
Cop: I don't see any tags. Actually... I don't see any collars on them either.
Me: They don't usually wear collars in the house, and they can't leave the porch because it's gated, so I don't see the need.
Cop: Well... they should wear their tags at all times! You know what would happen if they got out, and they didn't have any ID on them... especially if they act that dangerous...
Me (pissed off now): Yup... you'd shoot'em first, ask questions later... right??? And just to let you know - the most dangerous parts on MY dogs are their tails and their tongues. Really - you are MORE than welcome to come in the yard and meet them...
Cop: No, that's alright... I'm just letting you know, just in case... the police department is not a fan of Pit Bulls, so...
Me(interrupting him before he can give anymore unwanted "advise"): Well, if there's nothing else, OFFICER... *and I shepherded the boys in the house and shut the door before I lost my temper altogether and told this guy to "f**k off", and got myself arrested in the process.
WTH???
"Act that dangerous"??? Because they were barking??? God help us all.
