They sure can be. But we have Cattle panels for an enclosure and they don't take that big of space.
You need at least two.
I am going to raise 1 or two because the dang things, unless you get them very young or bottle fed, are kind of wild and don't let ya touch them at all.
Snickers loves being held and petted, he just figures he's a person too I guess. He's so affectionate. The new buckling I got, roughly the same age, is impossible to catch. He's going to be the dad to a baby eventually, that I will STEAL from the mom to bottle feed and hand raise.
All the ones in petting zoos must be handraised, because they are so tame...
BTW - the goats are the best weed killers around. They will eat ANYthing that is not tied down, as long as it is some sort of vegetation. They do leave non-food items alone. But trees? OMG. They'll kill any tree around. They strip off the bark. We give ours branches all the time and leaves to munch on.
They are not tough to care for but if you have a very large area they can escape or get hurt easier.
The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.
