Dr Phil...and pit bulls

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby HappyPuppy » March 4th, 2010, 8:09 pm

I just pulled up the Dr Phil (www.drphil.com) site to see what was on today (ugh, the lovely Nancy Grace is on)... Anyway, there is a flashing announcement box mid screen about their Message Board saying to 'Speak Up".

Rottweilers and Pit Bulls as Family Pets
"Should households with young children have Rottweilers or Pit Bulls as pets? Speak up!"

But.. when I try to click on it, it goes to the previous box with a different topic... Here's a great opportunity to chime it - if the site will let us get to the right place... (I haven't hunted around yet to try to find the message board directly)

I am really surprised to see that the majority of the comments are not anti-pit!

It's kind of crazy they bring this up...

There's a guy from Axe Men who has two rotti's that mauled and killed his 4-year-old daughter just recently... This isn't the first issue they have had with the breed in their house and it was cool because the news segment I saw they actually talked a Rotti person who said she wouldn't trust any dog alone with a child and that it isn't simply a breed thing.

Isn't Dr.Phil supposed to be a mental health specialist?
What do dogs or this survey have to do with his profession?

Perhaps he will do a show on stupid phobias caused by media sensationalism? That would be one (the only one) episode of his show I would ever watch.

In reference to Suzanne's comment - I just had 19 year old first time mother in my office the other day who was telling me she just got a chihuahua (however you spell it!) I mentioned my cat had the same name she gave her dog. She told me that she wanted a cat, but the people at the hospital told her if she gets a cat to never leave it alone with the baby because it may hurt the baby trying to get the milk from the baby's bottle. I told her I didn't know if that was true or not, but I added in that she should never leave any animal alone with her baby - including her chihuahua. Not sure why the hospital would just warn a teenaged first time mom about cats and not ALL animals in general.
