It actually looks good. No weeping or angry redness. He is feeling much better we are now into the "let me me a butthead" stage. I will sit in my crate and whine at you and when you bring me out so I can be on the pillow..I willl stand up every chance I get.

Aww- poor Doogie. I hope his recovery goes well. Glad it was able to be taken care of while he is young and able to heal well. He is a lucky boy to have you by his side!

Oh crap... missed this! :doh:

Yes, a lot of dogs have some dysphoria (in la la land :rolleyes2:

) on tramadol, and some will just kinda vocalize. The other possibility is that it isn't controlling his pain completely or that he is just plain confsed/frustrated that he can't do the things he wants to right now. :sad2:

Any panting or other signs of discomfort? If not, and he is eating and drinking and doing well otherwise, I would chalk it up to the meds causing a "whoa" feeling.

Doc..we finally seem to have enough load up to control the pain, but we are still getting unwarranted panting. He's toe touching a lot more when we go our for potty breaks. The hip seems to be a bit more swollen today so he is spending a lot of time in the crate.

I'm using melatonin to keep him relatively quiet and so far it seems to be working okayl.

Interesting question though. The first two days he was good with the ice pack (well bag of peas)..yesterday evening though he was fine at first and then popped up like somehing bit him. Thankfully I was right there and had his leash. Any reason you can think of the icing might cause him some pain? I've stopped icing because he's popped up several times now.

Are you wrapping the ice pack?

Dr. Blabs will know for sure but I think the bruising may be setting in more now, may be why he's reacting to it

No wrapping, the incision is high on the hip, so I'm making him lay down beside me and I'm holding it on
