so my husband is actually the person that gets on here and does this stuff... but he is away on a mission at the moment and I had a question, since I'm the person that spends the most time with our pup. I'm wondering if you guys could tell me how you house trained your dogs. It has been a minute since I house broke the pit mix that we had before Luna and I can't seem to remember what exactly I did... I am just wondering if there is a better way to do this. :? I REALLY don't want Luna to not like me... but I can't have her "going" on everything in our house.. ANY help would welcome!!!!!!!

Welcome!
Well, I'm no expert, and there are those on here that ARE, so take my advice and wait til someone else comes along with better/more experienced.

First, Keep her contained in her crate for sleeping and such. Puppies have to 'go' every time they wake and eat.
The minute she wakes up from a nap, take her outside...........
Right after she eats,,,,,,,,,,,take her outside.....

when she 'goes' on the floor in the house, pick her up quickly and take her out. Don't yell at her or punish her. She will learn simply to 'go hide' from you when she has to 'go'.

While mine was up and playing, after a while, I would just say ""do you have to Potty??"..and take him outside.....stand there and say:: "go potty"....and IF the pup goes potty, do a "praise' and happy dance and take pup back in the house.

I'd do the same spoken : "go potty' routine ANYTIME you're taking her out.

This is just my experience.......as limited as it may be...

The biggest trick is consistency and patience. I've had puppies that caught on quickly and puppies (read Doogie) that are about as quick as a brick.

Grace - excellent advise. Get on a schedule and do your very best to stay on one. I give my pups a command every time such as "go pottY'. Also, if they go outside and just play without going, bring them in put them in the crate and then back out in 5 or 10 minutes (depends on age of puppy), lather, rinse and repeat until they go.

Trouble was our first potty training success, and I think it was because we used a crate when she couldn't be watched, and she slept in the crate at night. Her major issue was the attention span of a flea. By the time she sniffed the first blade of grass she had forgotten what we went out for.
