Truman isn't acting right

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

When they did x-rays on Earl for his shoulder I had them do his neck as well. They noticed a partially herniated disc and one that was started to degenerate as well. Getting older sucks but I'm glad they figured out what was going on with the big guy

It's his back.

Vet listened to my description of when I hear him cry in pain (going UP stairs, into SUV, onto twin mattress) and when he isn't crying (jumping down from SUV), manipulated his back, and determined it was his back.

Truman literally throws himself onto his back like a WWF wrestler when he plays with Lenny.

No idea why he threw up, but gave a shot of Reglan to settle his stomach.

Blood work will be back in a few days, urinalysis was fine. He is on Dexamethasone, leash walk for two weeks, no playing with other dogs. Also got a shot of Dexamethasone for immediate pain and I now have to keep him from dancing around the house.

It's been 5 hours since his shot for pain, and he is a changed dog! I am still leash walking, not allowing play with others, etc., as per Vet, but he isn't screaming from pain when he moves. That alone is good news to my ears. :)

I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Thank you all, again! :)

Last night he was great. No crying when he moves around, and he is perky. Vet has me calling him every day with an update, as he wanted him to appear "90%" better by today. I can call with those stats. :dogRun:

I slept in the dog den because I felt bad for him. Well, maybe I felt bad for me...I missed sleeping next to my big black guy. :giggle:

I'm so happy to read that Truman is feeling better! Back problems are so painful.

May I suggest putting him on some glucosamine and chondroitin supplements for his joints? That is if he isn't already on them. I'd check with your vet first, though, just to make sure it's o.k.

He turned 6 in Oct. I remember when he was just a tiny puppy. Then he grew. And grew.
