Found a lump

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby ParisStreetPitCrew » January 27th, 2010, 7:47 pm

Wut Oh... I found a lump on Shades' rear leg last night. It seems a little deeper than the small lipoma we just removed from his brother's shoulder last month. Pretty solid and a little smaller than a gumball.
It wasn't there and now it is. Seems like it just popped up overnight almost.

Aside from lipoma or other tumor, what could it be??
I'll be calling the vet tomorrow. I noticed it last night and was hoping it would just be gone today, fast as it appeared. No luck.

It's on the outside of the leg, above the ankle in the meaty part of his leg.
It's in the same spot where Jazzy had a nerve sheath tumor a few years ago.
It could be a bite, I didn't think of that.

Personally, I would watch-n-wait a couple of days, unless it suddenly changes size or ulcerates or does something weird, LOL.

My old basset used to get fatty cysts all of the time, and then she got one that popped up suddenly, but was different than the rest.

Took her in to have them all removed (since one was right near her eye... :nono: ).

Anyway, the odd one on her leg turned out to be a follicle problem...I don't even remember what exactly happened, but it was to do with the hair follicle. Never heard of it before or since. But it showed me how many lumps there can be!

Good luck with your lumpy boy... :goodthoughts:

I shall keep my fingers crossed for a harmless, simply unattractive lump. :goodthoughts:

Ok, well today it seems to be a bit more fluid-filled and I'm almost positive it is a bit smaller. Kind of cyst-like.
I'm thinking of trying a warm compress on it to see if fluid will draw up towards the surface.

Thanks for the good thoughts. If I don't see any change soon, he'll be going in to have an aspirate done.

I'd have it checked, but then even if I wasn't "in the biz", I'm a paranoid freaky critter mommy :rolleyes2: , so I'm more apt to rush in for a sneeze. :shocker:
We have a Mastiff... does that count??? :)

Good to hear that you will be getting him to the vet......We are in the midst of dealing with MCT...The way you describe the lump getting bigger, then smaller, just appearing,,worries me for your boy. MCT is a very agressive cancer.
I truely do not want to give you worries,,,I just want to stress the importance of ruling this type of monster out.

If and when it is removed (the sooner the better),,,make sure you tell your vet to get clear margins.

We'll be looking for updates,,,,and sending good thoughts as we wait....Hope it's nothing.
