Therapy Tails

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby rockermom » January 13th, 2010, 5:13 pm

Hello all. I have been away from here for a while again. But I came back to brag because I was thinking most of you here were on a different forum when I first got Rocky. ANd many of you helped me along with naughty puppy behavior and owning a pit bull for the first time. So I just remembered what it was like and was thinking about you all.
And I wanted to share that Rocky passed the TDI therapy test on the 29th of Dec.

I am now awaiting our ID card and anxious to get started. But I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to protect people from the wicked whip tail greet.
Yeah I know got to work the sit down to greet but you know these wiggle butts its hard to keep your butt on the ground when you see someone you really like.

CONGRATS!

OOO OOO I know the answer to this as mine are wiggle butt therapy dogs too. LOL
When greeting, I'd suggest if I think they are being overly exuberant or wagging too hard and especially if it is a fragile client. Just step right over the top so to block the tail. Thus, standing with the back end of the dog between your legs. Tails certainly can be like whips so you need to be extra careful.

Have you decided where you will be visiting yet?

Patch O' luck, and let me know if you have any other questions. I'll gladly help out. :wave2:

Yeah when we went to the vet yesterday I got in between when he greeted someone. I think I have bruises on my thigh now.
I hope to go to the library for story time Rocky will be a "Tail Waggin Tutor" as TDI calls it. What an appropriate title.

I think that I'd like our Baku to become a therapy dog at some point.

As a side issue, he's recently developed a tear looking spot below his right eye.

It looks like a pigment spot. Is it flat on the skin?

Yup. There isn't any hair there. He has a few spots like the. For example, the roof of his mouth near his throat is dark. And a few spots on his belly.
