And two nights ago he brought a racoon!!! :shock:

Of course by the time I ran to get my camera... the racoon ran off. :sad2:

Clyde's checking to see if I have left him some oats... lol

"Hey LADY... I'm tryin' to eat here... back off!"

And, NO... I haven't tried to pet him yet. :rolleyes2:

Yes... Clyde is the ballsy one. They have eaten out of the same bowl a few times, when I forgot to bring in the cat food at night. :crazy2:

Noooo... I was actually more worried about the cats trying to kill the possum at first. :shock:

The cats are usually locked up in the house at night, but when I went to take pics Clyde darted out right behind me.
Are possums usually aggressive/combative?

I'm shocked he didn't tear into Clyde! Although I guess possums are pretty shy. His ears are kinda pretty.

Who knows, but the opossum society seems to indicate that opossums and cats seem to have a mutual respect for each other and opossums will more likely run from one rather than engaging in a fight.

Well, there you go... this one isn't the least bit shy. He'll sit there and let me take pis, and when he's good and ready he'll slowly amble off my porch.

I just keep him around to fatten him up for Demos Christmas dinner anyway. :wink:

I worked with possums a lot when doing wildlife rescue and generally they were pretty docile. Mommy possums were always willing to take on a couple extra orphan babies.

They LOVE grapes.

They eat right beside my cats often, or pick up leftovers off the back porch while the cats are sleeping right beside them. The ones I have ever came into contact with are very laid back, eat then walk off, or run when something scares them, on occasion they hide in the cat tree waiting for me to go back in the house.
If you read up on them they are considered gentle (of course, like anything wild ~ will bite) with most of them preferring to play dead or run away than get into a confrontation. They are sorta like a cat in that they will return to sources of food, so rather they are "FED" or just found leftover's they will be back. I'd have to look back, but I remember something about them living and being unchanged for millions of years, that alone is pretty cool. I found myself researching them due to an experience with Maddie :rolleyes2:

wondering what "cooties" my dog might have ~ since learning more I've had no issues, and actually enjoy watching them, heck I even find some of them a tad cute.

I wuv 'possums. They make nightly trips down our fence. I wish they wouldn't 'play possum' as Ruby has gotten 2 babies. :cuss:

I put nuts and random yummies on the fence for them.

The dogs are dying for a "meet-and-greet"... they like to watch the possum through the window, tails wagging like crazy... I think, to them, it's just another strange-looking cat. lol

However, I don't want the poor thing to have a heart attack, so that's not gonna happen. :wink:

I think they are cute, in some weird way. A few months ago, there was a baby one sitting on the fence one night. Patch kept going after it and it refused to move. Then a few nights later, Patch was out in the backyard and he was going nuts... I looked out and there was a huge one on the fence again. He kept jumping to get it and finally did. Didn't kill it, just picked it up and ran towards me with it - Tried to bring it in the house till he finally dropped it and left it alone.

Because of that I looked up info on them. Says they are one of the few wildlife to least likely to have rabies. They don't "play" dead... it's just because they get scared and kinda faint till they finally wake up. They don't bite unless they absolutely have to. They will keep hissing at you till they finally get pissy enough to bite.

Awwww I think they are way cute! A client brought one into work one time... a baby that had been possibly hit by a car. We took x-rays and unfortunately couldn't cure the little bugger, but the x-rays were cool and he was way cute!

However, I moonlighted as a Squirrel rehabber for several years and so I love little critters like this!
