Last year, Chako kicked off its formal "Santa Paws" program where we visited a family emergency shelter with wrapped presents for the moms, dads, and children in the home. This year, the recipient was the Sacramento County animal shelter. We purchased goodies for the shelter, and Petsmart (thanks, Kingsgurl) and Dog.com chipped in with lots of WONDERFUL donations. Kingsgurl really knows what the bulldogs love and provided Kongs, Nylabones, and lots of other Pit Bull friendly items! Thank you! Dog.com donated an indoor/outdoor bed, some blankets, stuffies, and other nice gifts. Savvy and Tauri lit up when I unpacked it all to load into the red wagon. Poor things... alas, they could not touch any of it!

It was rainy and grey today, but we braved the elements -- Savvy dressed in his Santa gear (the hat never stays on!), with Amy and Carol as helper Elves. Celeste, the volunteer coordinator, gave us a WONDERFUL tour of their brand spanking new and totally GREEN (in the environmental sense) facility.

Check out our Youtube video showcasing today's visit! (pardon the hair -- rain is not kind!)

I always use Savvy for these events because he is SUCH a mellow guy... on my way out (to put him in the car before our tour), a woman with a Golden Retriever walked in. She made a beeline for Savvy with her dog and then.... just let go the leash! Right inside the lobby. The elves and I were aghast! The Golden came right up to Savvy, nose to nose, no leash. It was a lovely moment. Luckily, all was well as I pushed my way by her and headed outside.

Anyway, enjoy the video!

thank you - and yes, it's a gorgeous facility...especially the habitat and meet and greet areas. ;)

What a great thing for you to do!

Thank you. It was certainly fun, despite the rain!
