Dar's swollen chin...

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby ArtGypsy » December 12th, 2009, 8:15 pm

Dar's Chin is all swollen and REALLY red..........it looks like it's from bumping against the kongs and the new blue treat ball that Big Dog Buford sent him....
Now I know the obvious is to withhold the kongs for a few days and see if it clears up, but I guess what I"m asking is whether or not anyone else has seen this?? it looks awful.... :sad2:

Perhaps a contact allergy from the toys? I'd try cleaning them really well in between sessions...

Holy crap...
Could most definitely be a contact allergy. Hide the toys for now. Poor Dar... :(

When Inara was younger she got HORRIBLE acne breakouts on her chin from eating out of a plastic bowl. The zits would break open and bleed everywhere. It was bad. I switched her to stainless steel and she hasn't had a breakout since. Maybe he's just sensitive.

I wasn't laughing AT you.......... :rolleyes2:  :D
I was laughing at the rug burn part...and you not being able to remember, what made ME remember that I couldn't TELL you the last time I had a "rug burn" or a RAZOR burn....

but yes, I think it is right............his chin rubs up against the kong, the blue chew ball and his bowl.
Maybe he just needs to go on a kong-break...

If it seems to be itching I discovered an ideal remedy. I found that 'Chloraseptic' spray (used for human sore throat) stops the itch and doesn't contain anything harmful.
It seems to work great for Trouble, use it all the time for any allergy breakouts around her mouth.

Many years ago the allergist we paid a small fortune to told us to always use glass or stainless bowls. Plastic bowls can cause that kind of outbreak in sensitive dogs.

Well, with the plastic bowl, the kong and that cool rubber treat ball, he's had his face stuck in something synthetic for hours on end......

Need some bully sticks and such for awhile, and leave the others alone.....

Yep, change to stainless steel bowls and run the toys through the dishwasher!
