Jacob our wonderful teacher, friend and companion is gone to the bridge..
He came to us 6 years ago from Chattanooga Lab Rescue as a young dog found on a highway in terrible condition, living in a chicken coop in TN until he could get on transport, survived several orthopedic surgeries, a two year battle with canine brucellosis and was lucky to have Travis my friend and neighbor keep him permanently.
Jacob was the biggest peckerhead dog I have ever had the pleasure to know. Stubborn as they come.
He lived with many rescue foster dogs over the years and two cats.
He taught us so much about the breed. He hated small animals that did not belong to him... loved people and his pack.
He had leash aggression in his younger days...
He was a well known when he went to Cornell for his monthly blood work..
He pushed us to learn how to teach him to behave in public.
He would stay out in the snow with Travis or me when we plowed and shoveled no matter how much his leg ached.
We'll see each other again.. I know. You were so good with all the rescues..put up with Helen the cat sharing your blankey and kneading on your stomach..kept the groundhogs off the property, cleaned up spilled cat kibble everyday.. took care of your human Travis for six years and taught him about your breed. You loved us all unconditionally despite our mistakes.. we will never forget you my best boy.
