Sully's Surgery

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby cecollins » October 3rd, 2009, 10:25 am

Looks like Sully is scheduled for dew claw removal on Tuesday, OCt 6th. I am nervous cause he has never had surgery, since I adopted him. He is having both front dew claws removed as he has torn them 3 times so far.
The good thing, is my vet will let me be there when he wakes up, so he wont be so scared.
I am hoping he will be all better by next Sat, the 10th when we are doing his temperment test!!!!

Please send good wishes on Tues to Sully!!!!
Sully's momma!

Miss you, Mick

aw! its a little surgery for a lot less future pain! Give him a kiss, tell him you love him, and go drink a soothing tea during his surgery :)
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Well here is the update, The surgery went well on Tuesday and he had an uneventful night. He was pretty tired and just slept.

The next few days went well also.
With him really just sleeping, not wanting to walk at all with his feet all wrapped up.
Occasionaly, he would look to see where his momma was..

When he came around, on went the e-collar, he is not to traumatized by it. It is clear and he has adjusted well to wearing it.

But on Friday morning, I woke at 530 am to see one of Sully's feet was swollen to twice it's size and I literally freaked out. I removed the bandage, called the e-clinic and told them about it. Since he allowed me to touch it and he did not seem like it hurt too much we waited untill my vet open at 8am. I have also been worried about him since he had not had a bowel movement since Tues morning and it was no Friday morning. By the time we arrived his foot was much better and they removed the other bandage. He also was walked and did his business for them. YEAH!!!

This morning, one of the incisions did not look good so off to the vets we go again!!! Poor Sully. They decided to remove the stiches flush it and place staples in it. He now has two more weeks of the e collar and another bandage to be removed tomororw.
This has been a long week for the both of us and I have to keep telling myself that I did this for him, not to cause pain but to keep him from tearing his dew claws in the future.
And this is him right now...

My poor boy, I hope he doesnt hate me for putting him thru this.
