I agree any wild animal should be treated with respect and not made pets or bred to pets. Unfortunately, situations happen and people do breed them; so rescues like this become a necessity.
As for sweet, they were, but I wouldn't want to meet a real wolf in the wild.
I "met" a pack in the Selway-Bitterroot back when the biologists insisted there were none to be found, but the ranchers knew otherwise. While they serenaded me to sleep from a couple miles up a canyon wall, the knife at my waist bag gave small comfort. I was 9 hours from the closest human who could render medical care. I did not carry a firearm, either, as I was prohibited from doing so by my employer. That trip taught me the value of a well-stoked camp fire that remains lit until sunrise.
