A TERRIFIED Birmingham family has spoken of their horror after their two pet dogs were brutally killed in a sadistic attack which turned their home into a bloodbath.

The Etchells family, from Erdington, returned home from a local pub to find Staffordshire bull terriers Lily, aged eight, and nine year-old Buster stabbed more than 30 TIMES each.

Lily’s body was dumped on the blood-soaked bed of 18 year-old Jade Etchells, with a knife driven into her eye and another snapped in her back by the force of the ferocious assault.

A youth was chased away from the house by painter and decorator dad Paul Etchells, who spotted him running out the back door.

“We decided to go home from the pub at about six o’clock,” Mr Etchells, 43, said.

“My wife Angela went ahead with our two year-old son George. When they went inside the house, there was a lad sitting on the floor in the living room, covered in blood, with a knife in his hand.

“He had locked the front door but my neighbour shouted that he was running round the back. He had my computer under his arm, but he chucked that into next door’s garden when I yelled after him.

“He ran out with his hoody over his head, hid behind some hedges and managed to get away – so we called the police.”

It was only after the youth got away that Mr Etchells realised his dogs had been slaughtered.

“I found Buster under the trampoline with about 30 stab wounds and a 12-inch knife next to his body,” he told the Sunday Mercury.

“He used four knives – all of them pretty big and over nine inches long – from the kitchen to kill the dogs.

“They are family dogs, they just played with people they never harmed anyone.

‘‘I can’t believe someone has done this to them.

“When we got into the house I went upstairs and found my daughter’s bed had been slashed, there were knife marks on the floor in her room, and broken glass from smashed picture frames.

“Lily’s body was laid on top of Jade’s bed with a knife broken in her back. There was blood all over the bed. It was absolutely horrific.”

Terrified teenager Jade says she has not slept in her room since the attack, and is now scared to be alone.

“I picked the dog up off the bed and there was all smashed glass underneath,” she said. “It was horrible.

“I can’t sleep in my bedroom anymore. I’m just terrified. I used to love to be alone and to look after George on my own, but I can’t do that now because I’m afraid.”

The family has also reported the case to the RSPCA.

A spokeswoman last night confirmed that the agency was probing the case.

“One of our local RSPCA Inspectors is investigating with a view to prosecution under the animal welfare act’s provisions for causing unnecessary suffering,” she said.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said that an 18 year-old man was arrested in Erdington on Thursday August 20 and is due to appear at Sutton Coldfield Magistrates Court next month, charged with burglary.

They say "fighting dogs" grab on and never let go; and it's the truth! Smokey grabbed my heart and never let go.

Holy mother of Earth, I just read this.

I would love to have a few hours in an interrogation room with perp, and a good thick phonebook.
