Good thoughts please

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

If anyone can spare some good thoughts for a non-pit bull friend of mine, I'd really appreciate it. Cooper is a 2 year old hound mix and my friend just called and told me that he has some sort of menengitis. The vet thinks it is from an insect bite. The vet told her 99% of dogs don't survive, but they are pumping him full of steroids and antibiotics in the hope that they might be able to get the swelling in his brain to go down. She was supposed to be out of town for three weeks, but flew back last night when she found out he had gotten worse. Cooper is the first dog she's had that's been solely hers, and she is understandably having a hard time with this. Good thoughts for Cooper and for my friend are much appreciated.

OMG I've never heard of meningitis in dogs - isn't that the "kissing disease"?

Tons of good thoughts coming Cooper's way!!!

Thanks everyone! I told my friend I was going to post here and that this board has done some amazing things. She promised to keep me updated, but I haven't heard anything new yet. She was on her way back to the specialist, which is a few hours from her house, when I talked to her, so I'm hoping I might get a new update some time tonight after she spends some more time with him.

Good luck puppy! Meningitis ( depending on which it is ) can be VERY nasty. My mom almost died from the viral type years ago. My ex boyfriend contracted the bacterial version from an infected tooth. Both were VERY sick for weeks

I got an update. Didn't get to actually talk to my friend, so this is just what she told me in a text message. They did a CT scan and didn't see a tumor (I wasn't aware that was a concern). The sample of cerebral spinal fluid they took came out cloudy. It should be clear. They sent the sample for more testing. Cooper is still unresponsive.
