I agree with Michelle. A prong collar is a good place to start out, and then work to having the dog respond to you no matter what kind of collar he/she is wearing. Just make sure that before you decide to use it, you know how to properly fit it. So many times I see people with their dogs wearing one and it's hanging off their necks or positioned way too low. People will try and tell you that the collar is too tight (had a debate with my vet about this), but if the chain part is extened as far as it can go, and you can fit one finger under the prongs, it's not too tight...also it should be positioned right behing the jawbone and the base of the skull at the top of the neck.
