Beat the Heat for an elder dog

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Does anyone have some tips on how to keep my elder dog comfortable inside the house?

He likes to rest in the bathroom on the tile floor during the hottest part of the day.
I put an oscillating fan there to give him a constant breeze.

only 2 months of heat a year didnt justify A/C, but I am considering it now, hehe

Do you have a basement that is cooler?

When my Lab had ACL surgery I actually purchased a window unit to keep him comfortable during the summer months

Frozen kongs, ice buckets, etc.. work as well

I've heard that they make beds that you fill up with water that keep the dog much cooler. I can just envision a nail puncturing it, though! lol

I can see it now,

My whole family all sleeping in the little room with the A/C hehe

ty

A doggy waterbed wow, Id have to keep that one outside hehe

Last night I was looking for Loki, I finally found him by looking out the window, he was resting on the cool grass after the sunset.
It freaked me out because he had never done this since Thor passed. I was worried he fell down the stairs or something, as his back legs have lost alot of strength that past few years.

TYG it was only him keeping cool, a soon as I said wanna chew chew? he got up and came inside.

For my old lab I would get several large towels wet and put them in the freezer...pull one out and lay it out for them, when it gets too warm or drippy, roll it back up put it back and get another.

I have done a very cold (almost frozen) bandana, tied around the neck... works pretty well, actually. :D

I bought a cooling bandana for Trouble. You wet it and refrigerate it. The gel expands with the water and holds the cold. I think I got it at Petsmart. They also make the gel filled bones you freeze and let them chew on. Trouble would do just as well chewing on a frozen water bottle. After the ice melts she would still have a toy to play with :)

Freeze a plastic container of water then flip it over into his water bowl so it looks like a dome. It will take a while to melt so it should last him.

I have one of those to. Mine I got at the dollar store. The one I got was the same that Bristol used to wear during softball games.
