Anyone ever deal with IBD in cats?

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby Patch O' Pits » July 14th, 2009, 12:06 pm

Babie~ Girl was diagnosed recently with IBD.
Anyone else have a cat with inflammatory bowel disease?

Any info would be extremely helpful. I've Googled a bit on it, but am still concerned.

I'm trying to find the best food to help her and also posted that in the feeding section

Any suggestions, advice, stories are greatly appreciated...

One of our cats had it years ago... I don't even remember the name of the food, but I know we got it from the vet. :( :|

Sorry, I know this isn't much help, but sending continued good thoughts for you and Babie-Girl. :hug3:

I thought different foods could set it off, depending on the cat?

There are a few diets out there that are easy to digest in the Vet. food world...
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

My kitty has it, has had it for years. I find that a high quality grain-free food keeps her belly the most happy, we currently feed Taste of the Wild and she does really well on it. Really well meaning she pukes once a week instead of daily.

I am looking at foods at this point. Is a grain free kibble OK or is canned better from everyone's experience.

I'll peek at taste of the wold. My vet said one protien source would be best and no grain.

I'm looking into raw but don't want to jump to that right away since she is an older cat and I'm inexperienced in that area with cats.

Kibble should be fine, in fact I find that wet food makes her sicker than kibble!

Does it need to be low-protein???

EVO makes a really good grain-free kibble for cats, but it has turkey AND chicken in it... and the protein content is 50.5%.

Here's a link to another forum where they discuss IBD in cats... maybe reading through it can help you decide?

The general consensus seems to be that "clumping cat litter" should be avoided, and that canned food is better than dry... :|
