Mosquito Bites

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby lellis34 » August 6th, 2008, 10:04 am

Is there some type of repellant that I can put on King to keep away the mosquitos. He's been getting these little bumps all over his body and I thought it was his usual skin condition acting up. CRAP just remembered I fogot his allergy shot last night.... but I digress. I thought these were his usual stuff, but this morning when we were coming in from our walk, I looked down and could see this little booger on the side of his chest and that's when it hit me what these bumps were. I get eaten up all the time when I'm outside and didn't even think thats what it was. Any thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing. They eat me up like crazy, and Patch would get bumps... So I figured it was just cause the grass was starting to get a lil' high. :?

If I need "people products" for the dogs like sunscreen, bug repellant, etc, I generally look for stuff approved for babies. It's usually very mild and definately (human) non-toxic.

Bumping this up. Apparently West Nile virus is going to be really bad this year and drainage in my area sucks so there are always craploads of skeeters. I'd like something I can just spritz on Inara (and myself!) before we go outside, even just to pee, especially at night. I'd prefer something that doesn't need rinsed off and can be spritzed on as needed. It also needs to be kitty-kitty safe so The Piss doesn't get sick.

I tried finding that marigold spray that hey21jude linked to but the link no longer works. Any other ideas?

I've had no problems using 98% Deet on Monty during our camping trips. I either apply it to him directly but usually I'll spray some on top of his RuffWear Cloud Chaser Jacket.

If you wiki deet there is a section on animal testing. There have been cases of neurological reactions in certain dogs. But hell there've been reactions in people as well. Just try a little bit and observe the dog.

Also, just an FYI those hippie type natural products don't work nearly as well as Deet. I did a lot of research on the subject before rubbing Monty down with Jungle Juice from REI.
