I just woke up a few minutes ago to find Sexy Rexy had passed. Last night I knew she wasn't doing well since she allowed me to medicate her through the bars of the cage without a fuss.
Sexy Rexy was my very first animal after I had moved out of my parent's house. She had belonged to my best friend's (now ex) girlfriend. She was continuously trying to attack their cats, their rats, and especially their other rabbit. She seemed miserable there so I offered to take her.
She had SO MUCH character! My roommate would lie on the floor doing her homework and Rexy would run up to her, steal her pencil right out of her hand, and run away with it. She also adored my neighbor's baby and whenever the baby would come over they would actually play with each other, and then they would lie down next to each other for a nap. Rexy loved to jump up in my bed, fling herself on her back, and watch tv. She was hysterical.
But oh she had her downfalls. She was, hands down, the most destructive rabbit I ever had. She had to be watched like a HAWK whenever she was out of her cage, but even that didn't save my dresser, multiple fans, multiple phone cords, books, key chains, shoes, etc etc etc. She also was severely animal aggressive. My ex-boyfriend, being a nice guy, decided to give me a second rabbit to keep The Sex company. Well after that new bunny recieved a new ear piercing, he also got a new home. She also would go after my roommate's ferrets, and my other roommate's chinchillas, even through the bars of the cage. She wasn't a fan of the rats, but luckily only ever came into contact with them when the girls were little and would escape from their cage and crawl into hers. I would hear her start to grunt in my sleep, and I would know I had about 20 seconds to rescue a rat baby from the rabbit cage!
Even though she was aggressive towards the smaller animals, I found she had a love for dogs. She would bounce off of Wally, simply to piss him off. She enjoyed ear and face washings from Teeny and numerous Rotties. There was only ever one dog she didn't like, and that was Halo. We all know why that went bad. But she would come to class with me in her younger years as a "leave it" object and would sit and wash her face as dogs lunged at her. Not a care in the world for that little lady!
Rex has moved with me 4 times. She has seen 7 rats, 3 bettas, 1 rabbit, and 5 dogs come through my family, not to mention the numerous foster dogs, cats, and rats. She only started slowing down the tiniest bit in the past year, and only really got sick this past month. This morning, early morning, I heard a noise coming from her cage. But it only lasted about 3 seconds and then stopped, so I rolled over and went back to sleep. That must have been when she passed. Teeny keeps sniffing around her cage, staring at her through the bars. I need to go take care of that now.
Thanks for listening. RIP my old lady.
(PS: As usual, smurf the rainbow bridge, so please don't mention it)
