Hi guys ,
The lump started oozing more today and has now spread to some parts of her lower jaw (it is soft, and fluid filled).
Today when the the vet saw this he said that the abcess has to be surgically removed along with any surrounding tissue. He said that the biopsy showed that it is an abcess. He also said that the entire leg would have to be removed.
He then said that he does not know if she can make it through a surgery like that because how emmaciated she was. She did not eat the previous day and she was dehydrated.
He then said that it would be best for me to let her go! After pondering this for a second, I told him ok and that I would bring her on Friday to "let her go"!
Befor I left I asked him about trying a broad spectrum antibiotic. I mean, If all of this was due to a bad infection then this should work. He then said that this may work but because the abcess has not been removed, the antibiotic MAY not be as effective
On my way home I was crying but then I thaught to my self, "What the fuck, this vet is giving half ass effort and you are smart enough to at least try some thing"!
Here me out on this. I am not a vet and have never claimed to be one. However, I do have a biology degree and know a lil some thing. Usually I do not take my dogs to the vet unless I have to and that has worked very good for me for the last 15 yrs or so.
About three yeras ago one of my females ate some fish and got fish poisoned. Her condition was so bad that she was litterally lifeless. When the vet saw her she was vommiting, urinating, and stooling at the same time. He then said these exact words to me, "There is nothing we can do for her, she is not going to make it".
I then took my dog home, did my research and went to work. For a week my kitchen was like a make shift hospital. But she made it and is alive and kicking rite now as I write this.
(For those of you that don't know; fish poison is about 10x worse for a dog than it is for a human).
My point is that there must be some thing that I can try. I am thinking a combination of antibiotics like baytril/clavomax or eurethromycin etc. I am thinking 250mg 2-3x a day given with 100ml of ringers each time. I do not know eactly what yet but I'll be hitting the books hard tonight researching!
I know that this is a bit much but I feel like if I do not try some thing then I am failing Zora. Now, If I was to do something like this and after about a week there is no improvement then I know it is time to let her go.
But I just find it hard to do so now with out giving it more effort.
I am sorry for writting so much but I am having a very difficult time with this!
Thank you and good night.
