Damned dog makes me paranoid

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby pitbullmamaliz » April 25th, 2009, 4:15 pm

For the last couple of days Inara's been in a funk. Not lethargic, but not her usual stuff. A little clingier than usual, and occasionally getting that dripping saliva that they get before vomiting. Eating/pooping/drinking okay. This afternoon though she actually did throw up - a very little amount (few tablespoons?) of a whitish foam. I'm not at the point where I'm going to rush her to the e-vet, but if this keeps up should I call the vet on Monday morning to get her in?

Also, about an hour prior to vomiting I had given her her heartworm pill (Sentinel) - is she not going to be protected now? It was the first one of the season so she doesn't have any in her system yet. Do you think it had time to be absorbed before she yakked?

If she's still feeling a bit funky by Monday, it probably would be a good idea to give a quick call to the vet. If she's vomits any more then definitely give a call.

In the meantime, maybe feed her a bland diet and see how she does.

I'm not sure about the Sentinel. I'm assuming you didn't see any bits of pill in the foam? As long as you didn't, she's probably covered, but you might want to ask the vet.

Ended up feeding her her regular food as I couldn't get online to see your response.

Definitely no bits of pill in her yak. I'll double-check with the vet on Monday, though. Thanks!

try encouraging her to drink and offering small amounts of food and water frequently....

I'd agree with going in on monday if she doesn't improve...

Seems a bit perkier, thanks for asking! Only problem is we have dog school this morning and it's going to be held outdoors, and it's supposed to be 80 by 11. So I have a cooling vest ready for her to wear, I froze tiny hot dog pieces for a cool training treat, and froze half of her water. I also have sunscreen ready for her face, and I myself am slathered in it as well.

Send us cool, non-sunburn thoughts!

She did really well! She's sprawled out (in the sun  ) resting, but I think she's feeling better. I believe the no-sunburn thoughts helped us out! lol

Crazy. 80 is "oh god please don't make me go outside in that heat" weather.

*sigh* I called the vet this afternoon and Inara's going in tomorrow evening. She's still been kind of lethargic, barely finished her dinner last night, and didn't finish it tonight. It was my work at home day and she just slept all day. We went for a brief 15 minute wander around the condo complex this evening and she was panting in about 10 minutes. It's been really warm, so I'm hoping she's just not adjusting well to the sudden temperature change (went from mid-40's to 80+ in a couple days). She is happily chewing on a marrow bone right now, so that's good. So think healthy thoughts for us tomorrow evening!

Thanks all! She actually slept with me last night, and inhaled her breakfast this morning (though she was appalled that I'd not given her her full portion). The temperature dropped overnight and is dropping throughout the day, thank god, so hopefully that will help her perk up. Regardless, her appt is at 6:45 - even if she is her regular self when I get home I'm still going to take her, just to be on the safe side. :)

I was right - it was just the crazy heat making Inara act funny. I figured it was because it was a lot cooler today and she was back to her normal playful self.

Vet said she's perfectly healthy. :) I love my vet - she only charged me $11.

:D
