good thoughts

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

I think my girlfriend has to take her dog to the e-vet - she's thrown up 6 times in the past hour and is all hunched over and disoriented. She said her gums are brownish. I told her she needs to go to the e-vet asap. If she goes I'm going to meet her there. So keep your fingers crossed that Echo is okay - it sounds to me like an impaction, almost. :(

Alright, she's definitely going to the e-vet. Thank god she got her tax return today. I'm going to meet her there. Please cross fingers that she's okay and it's an easy fix and/or over-reaction on my friend's part.

Alright, just got back home. Echo has pancreatitis but he said it was caught early, which is good. They did bloodwork and x-rays. He said in an ideal world he would recommend keeping her at the hospital on an IV, but because she was feeling okay enough to be worked up, he feared (rightfully so) that she would just keep ripping the IV's out. So they did sub-q fluids and gave her 3 shots of medicine. No food or water for 24 hours, and then after the 24 hours small amounts of both. Also in 24 hours, she is to be started on flagyl and cilero (or something like that). Any signs of her getting worse and back to the e-vet she goes, but he said it looks good for her to make an easy recovery with no lasting effects.

So thanks for the good thoughts - they worked!

phew!

make sure she does REALLY smalls amount of food or water -- it can't hurt to do like 1T food per hr and maybe 1/2 - 1 cup of water/hr. It would also be better to offer a blander food, like boiled chicken or rice or a prepared diet(usually low fat or Gastro type). Echo may want to drink or eat more, but sometimes their stomach doesn't know best. Pancreatitis can be quite painful, I understand.

get better soon Echo!
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Thanks Malli, I forwarded her a link to this thread and told her to come check out your tip on how to start feeding again.

Thanks again for the good thoughts, everybody! I was so relieved it wasn't an obstruction.

Thanks to everyone for all their heartfelt thoughts! Echo, I am pleased to say is feeling much more like herself already (she is a bit upset for not being fed & watered but she will live). She is chasing her brother and sister around and has been on a small walk today (finally a nice day in Ohio). I will definitely make her a gourmet dinner of rice and chicken and follow as you said. I couldn't bear to take her back again. But on a good note for $535.00 you can get 2 really cool magnets LOL, right Liz? Thanks again everyone!! :wave2: Special THANKS to Liz, Don't know where I'd be without ya!!
