distemper vaccine for Dar

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

OKay.
this is going to sound really stupid, but here goes;:::

I asked the vet if I could administer Dar's 4 month shots myself, since there has been such ....uh...
chaos' around here.......between the snow storms and the latest issues with Amanda, I just haven't gotten him to the vet.

I went yesterday, bought the distemper and bordetella.......when I went to stick in the needle to the distemper, there's nothing but a little dry 'cake' of vaccine. Was I supposed to rehydrate it or something??

I have given shots to stray cats for years, and didnt' think anything about asking the vet to let me get Dar back on schedule by administering his last round.

Gawd, I feel stupid. Is it old, or should I have been told to add purified water, or something??

thanks, guys......

There should have been a second vial with 1 cc (mL) of sterile saline in it. You could use plain water, but it carries a risk of infection since there can be nasties in the water and you are bypassing all defense systems and just placing into the body, albeit just subcutaneously. I would go back and ask for either the 2nd vial or just a syringe with 1cc of sterile saline in it. Or bacteriostatic if they don't have/won't give you saline.
