Treating cuts, etc?

Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Somehow Frazer hit his head on something and took a small patch of hair off his head. It is a round shape smaller than a dime. Anyways I am looking at it and there appears to be green gunk around it so I am going to assume its got some infection. I can see the reddish flesh, but it looks like his hair was just snatched out. What do I need to do to treat this?

I'd wash it and leave it alone.

I heard dogs have good immune systems, but Frazer loves lying and playing in the dirt....which I ma sure helps.

Keep it clean, but don't keep fussing with it.

I like human-grade triple antibiotic for angry looking cuts . . .

Betadine is the best. Or triple Antibiotic ointment.
A good wash with some antibacterial soap would work great - if you don't have either of those things, or before you use either of those things.

I used Bactine on Sacha's face when the puppy's tooth came out and got lodged in her face (b/c she kept chewing on Sacha)...the doctor had to actually open her face to get the tooth out, but at that point, Sacha had scratched so much that the entire side of her face was an open wound.

I also kept Neosporin on it.

Once it started to heal, I used Bag Balm to create a "cover" for it. It kept it moist (so it didn't itch as much) and she didn't scar (I swear by Bag Balm...I use it on myself, my dogs...great for dry skin)
