I am so glad y'all got it fixed. It is cold here, I can't imagine how cold it would be there without heat.
Good news furnace is fixed.

They were here for three hours, starting at about 4, so that's well into "evening rate" and they charged 2 hours day rate.

The controller was pricy, but not much can be done about that. :|

It sure wasn't free, but it was less than half of what I was expecting. YAY!

Stay warm everyone!!!!!!

UUUGH yesterday I had to pay to get mine fixed and was thankful that it wasn't worse. It is scary not having heat.

The service calls especially emergency ones are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't know if your utility company offers the monthly 'insurance' fee or not, but here, I pay a little over 11 bucks a month, and there's NO CHARGE for labor OR PARTS. I've had the service for about 4 years, and sure, over time that adds up to a good chunk of change. But they cover several gas appliances for that cost. Dryer, Gas Stove, water heater, furnace I know for sure. And I've had them every year for SOMETHING, as my stuff is kinda old. They've had to replace the furnace coupling twice, the blower fan once.........fixed my dryer twice.........stuff like that. And no charge if it's after hours!!

Yeah, I have the furnace insurance, too -- it's maybe $15 a month. Our furnace is almost 40 years old, but runs like a champ. The insurance also gives us free maintanence and a free total cleaning every year. We've had a couple of problems with the furnace over the years we've lived here, but haven't paid for a part or emergency service yet.

Wow! That's pretty neat. I've never heard of that before. Of course, I've always rented so other than being cold, it's not my problem if the furnace goes. :giggle:

I've never heard of furnace insurance, but I'll look into it. We actually have a boiler, so besides the few electrical parts on them they rarely have any problems. I wonder if it would cover the pumps (not techincally part of the furnace) too, because that would make it worth it, no question.

The insurance I'm referring to is offered through our natural gas company. ........

Electric companies may have something similar........

And again...

*sigh*

Just wired up the furnace, (it's 54 in the house) and it seemed to be running fine. Then I noticed that I didn't hear the pumps clicking. Checked the temp of the water and it was climbing fast. Ok, that's weird. Then the relief valve blew. Not good.

Last year we had to get a new pump and a later in the season, new controller for the pilot light. It had better still be under warranty.

*sigh*

Let's see....

The bladder in the expansion tank was ruptured so the tank was full of water. The air bleed valve was corroded so air couldn't make it out of the system. AND the circulating pump for the first floor was dead.

Fan-freekin-tasic.
