As you know, two years ago I had the honor of showing my friend, Dallas's dog, TJ, in the PSA Level 3's. Dallas was kind enough to let me keep her dog for nearly a year while showing him, even though I know she and her sons missed him greatly. However, they knew how happy he was working, and they wanted to make him happy.
During that year, I fell in love with TJ. He was simply the best dog. He was friendly, loved being loved on, and was probably the best PR dog for bitework (b/c he was so lovey yet did the work). He also taught me so much about training, and made me much more equipped to be able to handle Cy this year.
This past year, he developed a tumor. Right on his rear end. It grew and grew, and he had a hard time pooping (they had to give him stool softeners, and, eventually would have to give him enemas). Last night, he ate his dinner, then he was running around the house. He looked like he was going to throw up, so Jerry let him outside. Dallas let him back in and he was acting weird. She started to feel his belly, and asked Jerry the signs of bloat. By the time they got him to the vet, his stomach had already flipped. They x-rayed and told them they could do surgery. However, TJ was 14 years old, and had that large inoperable tumor.
Dallas didn't want him to have trouble pooping anymore, and she knew he lived a good life. So, last night, Dallas made the hard decision to end TJ's suffering. She called me this morning to tell me.
TJ had a lot of people that loved him and his goofy, nerdy face. He will be sorely missed by many. Please keep Dallas and her boys in your thoughts...I know how hard this is for her.
These are just a few of TJ's accomplishments:
PSA Level 1 (first time he was shown)
PSA Level 2 (to this day, he has earned his PSA 2 in fewer trials than any other dog, he was shown twice, and he earned his first leg the first time, and his 2nd leg the 2nd time - Greg got his 2nd leg, and ultimately the title).
2007 PSA Level 3 2nd Place at Nationals
2007 PSA Midwest Regional Champ
2007 PSA East Coast Regional Champ
