We have had our pit for about 18 months, since he was 6 weeks old. We love him so much. His name is Scout. He is beautiful light tan brindle. He is such a couch potatoe. Loves fetch and tug, but other than walking up to get the kids from school he is happy to lay around on the couch and chew on his bone. He loves to chew. Made the Kong testers list because he destroyed a snugga and a wubba in less than 3 days. That actually brings me to the question.

Over the summer we adopted a rescue dog. Not a pit. Lucky is a husky/shepard mix. Out little pit loves to run and play with him. Lucky is about a foot taller than Scout, so they are a pretty even match. They both play hard, and don't hurt each other. However, somehow Lucky got fleas about 3 weeks ago. Getting rid of the fleas was not that hard, but Scout started chewing on himself, and now he will not stop. He is making the spot at the base of his tail bleed. We have tried bathing him to get rid of anything that could cause him to itch. And we also tried putting mosturising cream, but nothing seems to be helping him. At times we have to mussle him just to get him to stop chewing. He woudl rather chew on himself than his toys. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum! :wave2:

Scout and Lucky sound delightful!

As for the tail biting, has your Vet looked at it? Maybe an allergy and not really from the fleas? Is he "bored" in his crate without toys for a long period?

When my Labradork had one flea bite on his face, he scratched it so much with his feet that he had to have the area shaved. Then he was put on prednisone and had to wear an e-collar.

Sounds to me like your dog is having a severe allergic reaction to the fleas. Please bring him to the vet ASAP to have him checked out -- his itching/chewing will only get worse if you can't get it under control.

One of my dogs is SO allergic to fleas that he breaks out in hives and bully bumps, then scratches and chews himself raw. A combination of antihistamines, steroids, and antibiotics usually helps him.
