Renee's flyball debut

Weight pull, Protection, Agility, Flyball... you name it!

Wow, what a weekend. I was not expecting much, other than complete chaos, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I think I can safely say that the first tournament my team ever hosted was a success. I put a ton of pressure on Renee by giving her a full spot on one of our teams, and she did great. Her turn did not hold at all, but I really didn't expect it to. All I was hoping was that she would have fun, and I think she did. She started to shut down in her last race, but worked through it and finished the last heat successfully, other than a bad pass (I didn't expect her to go so fast after she had just stopped at the box the heat before). I won't put her on a team full time again for a while, but I think she's close to being ready to share a spot. We even had a four foot pass one time and she went right down and did her thing.

And Hannah did great all weekend. She even got all four feet on the box several times. I am so proud of her. I only wish Sam had been there taking pictures. And our new border collie did quite well, his turn stayed nice and high, and he finished clean most of the time, with no crossing over.

My dad did get several videos, though it was his first time at a tournament, so it took him a few tries to get the action down. I'm uploading them to youtube now. I will post links when I finish.

You got that right. She came back just about two years ago, shortly before the last tournament in Charlotte, and didn't even want to walk into the building with me. She spent the whole time inside just wanting to leave. Yesterday she actually started tugging with me next to the lane. I know I put her into a line up way too early, but I've pretty much come to the conclusion that flyball isn't really her thing, and she won't ever be a speed demon, so I'm not too worried about ruining her turn.

Oh, and I forgot to add...she got her first two titles!

Here's some videos. I apologize for the poor quality...of the videos and the flyball lol

This one is Bart, Cho, Hannah, and Molly, in that order. If you look really closely, you can see that all four of Hannah's feet do touch the box. And Molly does not run until the other team finishes because she had a bad chasing episode in the race before this, after doing so well all weekend. (It was a Toller, who apparently just looked a little too different than any dog she's ever run against before.) Oh, and Hannah comes back slower than normal because Molly and her mom are right in the middle of the lane closer to the line than usual (again because of the chasing episode). Her times were mid to high fives this weekend, rather than high fours to low fives. And I think this is the race where I forgot her tug, as I was line judging the race right before. So all I had was food, and I think she's finally started to run faster for the tug.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...Renee's team! This is Buster, Renee, and Hathaway (Fletch ran 4th, but he's not on the video). Buster is our new Border Collie, and one of the first dogs I've helped train, so I'm very happy with his turn. Renee looks awful, but at least she did her thing. I didn't notice until I watched these just how much she slows down (actually stops) at the box. I guess I need to keep working on her motivation lol

Those videos were so cool!!! I am kinda laughing though, at Renee's nonchalant "jog" in her lane. :giggle: Hey, she'll get there when she is good and ready.

nice job, Renee! It's so good to see you in the lanes!

Hey, are you guys coming to Franklin? We need a dog for an open team?!?!

BTW, does Buster have hind leg issues? He's really choppy when he runs...no extension. He reminds me of Ripley...who has bad hips and back. Nice box turn though! Yea you!

So tell me, oh wise flyball lady, what do I do to speed her up?

Darn you, woman!!! I just said I would not go to Franklin, but now you have me wanting to. I'm actually just worried about my car making it there and back. Well, and then there's the whole spending money I don't have thing. Though I just looked again and it's only about 5 hours.

I don't know, but I have always thought he moved weird, even when he was a puppy. It's like something is off, but I can't tell exactly what. Jenny thinks he may have hip dysplasia, because he tends to move both back legs together. I'm trying to find a nice way to mention it to Patty.

Bad knees can cause that too...Sawyer hops up steps like a dog with HD, but it's his patellas that have issues.

And yes...you should come to Franklin...yes...we need you!
