Toonces

Postby pitbullmamaliz » November 1st, 2007, 8:19 am

My little man, in his early 20's. Had him for about 18 years. Best cat ever. Had to put him to sleep last night as his back legs stopped working. Not doing real well. Will post pics later.

Liz, I am so sorry to hear that :( Know that Toonces is now in a place where his legs do work, and he's free from pain. We're all here if you need us... :groupHug:

Thanks all. I just feel like a piece of me is gone, now. I KNOW he is in a better place, and out of pain, but that still doesn't stop me from double-guessing myself.

No, Toonces relied on you to keep him happy and safe, and I know you posted some time ago he wasn't doing well.
He had a VERY long and very happy life- you did your best and at the end, I know you did not fail him, Liz.
RIP Toonces!

It sucks, and part of you is gone... but after a while, you get used to the feeling and it doesn't hurt as much. the biggest problem is the second guessing, but from everything you have told us about him he lived a long happy life and you didn't let him suffer... so there is nothing you should be second guessing about.

I'm so sorry, Liz. You gave him the best, and longest, life possible. And you were kind enough not to let him suffer at the end.

RIP Toonces.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Here is the most recent pic of him, with my mom:

On the cat tree he loved so much:

Toonces came to us as a stray, on the 4th of July. We had gone to fireworks and he was sitting on the front porch when we returned. My stepsister named him after Toonces the Driving Cat on Saturday Night Live. He was mine from day one. For him, the sun rose and set with me. He would enjoy others, but he always left them for me when I came home. His fur dried my tears many a time as I was growing up, and his purrs lulled me to sleep. There will never be another cat like him. Never.

Whew, what a memory to be brought up again. I'm coming up on the year anniversary of his death and this thread still made me cry again.

Thanks again for all the kind thoughts.
