I made chicken in a clay crock last night. I have a Romertopf sort of like this one that I have not used in years.

Image

I soaked the top & bottom of the pot in water for a few minutes, Put in a whole chicken. Rubbed butter on it, sprinkled sea salt, cracked pepper & rosemary on it. Put it in a COLD oven, set it at 350 & left it alone for about an hour & a half. It basted itself and even browned itself.

You can cook ANY THING in this pot, roasts, veggies...whatever.

Debby is that a stoneware type pot? I LOVE those things! I have a couple from Pampered Chef that are absolutely invaluable in the kitchen. They even make ones that you can bake brownies in!

This one is unglazed clay, like the red clay plant pots are made of. It is different than my pizza stone. Is that the stuff your stoneware is made of?

My stuff is made of the same stuff as pizza stone. Also unglazed so I get goosebumps every single time I touch it. *shudder* Nice to have in the kitchen though! Sounds like it probably cooks the same way as the clay does.

It probably does, same basic principle. Do you soak the stoneware before you cook in it?

I actually don't, that's why I was asking if the clay was similar. I can see where that would make the meat more moist, though, kind of like a steam bath. I'm going to have to try that next time!

Make sure you need to soak it first, I would hate for it to crack if isnt supposed to be. These are supposed to be soaked or they will crack.

I went to a cooking party tonight, and at the end there was a cookie exchange. Anyway, everyone was raving about these cookies, and they are really good, not to mention super simple and fast.

Holiday S'mores Recipe (good for any holiday, just change m&m color)
17 minutes total - 10 minutes prep - 7 minutes bake - 36 bars

12 chocolate graham crackers
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 cups miniature marshmallows
1 cup M&M candy

1. Heat over to 350F, line 15x10x1 inch jelly roll pan with aluminum foil, extending foil over edges.
Spray foil with no stick cooking spray. Place graham crackers onto foil so sides touch.

@. Melt butter and brown sugar in 2 quart saucepan over medium heat, stir constantly until smooth and mixture just comes to a boil (4 to 6 minutes)
Pour evenly over crackers, and bake for 5-6 minutes or until bubbly
Remove pan from oven sprinkle with marshmallows, and continue baking until marshmallows begin to soften (2-3 minutes)
Sprinkle with M&M pieces, and let cool
LIft out of pan using the foil ends and cut into bars
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure....

I had this at a Christmas party last weekend. SO YUMMY!! And it was really nice because it was a non-veggie tray item that was still vegetarian friendly, it was really good. I asked the lady who brought it for the recipe and she told me that it wasn't even really a recipe! Here's how she described it to me:

Bite size tortellini

Buy pre-made tortellinis and cook according to directions. After
done cooking drain in a collander and run under cold water to stop
any cooking. Put tortellinis in a bowl, cover and put in fridge. Let
cool in the fridge for 1-2 hours or until cooled through. Then put
one tortellini each in a cupcake paper (I don't know what they are
really called). On top of the tortellini put 1-2 tablespoons of your
favorite pre-made or home made marinara sauce and about 1/2
tablespoon of basil pesto. Top with shredded parmesean cheese.

The PERFECT bite size party food, they can be a little messy if
eaten with fingers though, you may want to use a fork. :)

Yummy low fat dish. I make big batches of this and eat it for a couple of days.

Cook 1 cup of brown rice per directions. I like this brand: http://www.lundberg.com/products/rice/r ... bilee.aspx

Boil broccoli (or brocolitini) for 5 minutes in salted water, drain. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet, add 2 cloves of garlic and saute until it's just starting to turn color, add broccoli and saute for 5 minutes. Combine and enjoy! If you want to add a good protein, throw in some tuna or cooked chicken breast.

It tastes like Heaven......The ratio of apples to batter is insane (the batter just coats the apples),,,,it has a very custardy mouthfeel...Just give it a shot,,,,,it's very simple,,,,very French.I used Bacardi Gold instead of a true dark rum as that's all I had on hand. If you want a "Rummy" taste,,,use darker or spiced rum.

I need a fun but easy Halloween themed recipe. Anyone? I'd like to stick to some kind of side dish. Someone suggested Gruesome Goulash but I think that may be a little too much work than I want to put in lol

To be simple and easy you always could make up a "pile o bones" (baby back ribs) and be creative as how to present them.....

What about cookies?

Make ginger snaps and roll them in grape nuts cereal, then bake.

go buy a new litter box, fill the bottom with grape nuts cereal. Arrange the cookies in the box in little heaps.
