Georgie - the cat

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

In honor of Gerogie's 12th birthday, I bought him some ground buffalo meat, cooked it, and added it to his newest meat mash mixture. He thinks buffalo meat is mighty fine. At $5 a pound, I am glad that he does.

Georgie says thank you - he always likes meeting new people and getting lots of attention.
I woke up sweating from a nightmare this AM dreaming that I had been rolled up into a carpet and was suffocating. Georgie was laying across my hair (and the top of my head) and Stormy Blue was draped across my lower legs. :crazy2: I was very effectively immobilized.

An update:

Georgie is now at 90 days post diagnoses and still doing well. His appetite is healthy (he is actually a bit plump, now) and he interacts well with the other animals. He does get tired easily and will nap wherever he wants and you are expected to step over/around him. He does not move until he is ready to do so. Kings are above such things, don't you know?

I have finally reached a point of peace realizing that Georgie does NOT have an expiration date stamped on his a$$ and that he will be with me for as long as he will be with me. No one can say for sure how long that will be. I have stopped being afraid that I will come home from work and find him passed away.

His eyes and coat are bright and shiny and he is happy, fat, loving, affectionate, and content - and that is really all that matters, isn't it? His quality of life is good and as long as that quality of life is not compromised, Georgie will be with me.

Here are some pictures, taken today, of handsome Georgie....

ps: cats are a LOT harder to photograph than dogs...

Not so great news for Georgie yesterday - the cancer has now spread to his front legs. It is in his bones.
The oral gabapentin medication was not giving him enough relief from the pain any longer, and his appetite started declining. His pain medication has been changed to a gabapentin gel compound which is to be applied to his skin. I had to shave a patch about the size of a 1/2 dollar on the back of his neck (saying he did not appreciate this action would be to understate the issue) to apply the gel to. I have to keep it as clean shaven as possible so that the pain medication will soak in. I have to apply it daily and to do this, means turning him into a purrito, first. He HATES being turned into a puritto and it stresses him terribly.

Please think kind thoughts for my Georgie. I do not think he will be with us for too much longer *cry*
