A little brag..

This is where to talk about Pit Bulls!

Postby ellie@ny » April 4th, 2006, 8:19 pm

Well, yesterday when we went to the petstore (Yes the same store-with the french kisser cashier.. :),I just saw a sign about there will be CGC test today. So I tought maybe I should try with Nico just before his 1.birthday. So I came home today, and went over, sign up,and we were the 5.on the list. First was a Chow he fell out at the 1. part excepting a stranger to pet-groom him. He almost bit the trainer...2.was an Aussie, she past that was her 2. time. 3. was a GSD,he fell out at the reaction with another dog...yes,he had a reaction, but not a good one...Then 4. was a Spaniel she past too.And finally we came! I was a nerve wreck,as I saw some dogs didn't past the test...And Nico babe did everything beautifully!!!!I was sooo proud of him!The last part was the supervised separation,I had to leave him in a room with a stranger for 3 min. When the lady came out of the room, she only said one thing to me : Your dog is a VEERYY happy dog.....I asked shy what is she talking about, and she said she never got that many kisses in 3 minutes....
So I'm very happy now, then we went back to the store, next door, and Nico got a huge bully stick! :D Now I hope the TT with Maya butt will be good too.... :rolleyes2:

Thanks guys!I really wasn't expecting anything, just went for it!I tought it will be a good experience to know what are we have to work on after...I remember that happened with Maya too,I was at a show with her,and after the breed class,we just went to wach the CGC test for the first time to see, what am I have to teach to her.Next I know I was in the ring and she got it at 8 months old. With veeery limited training...I guess I'm just lucky... :D

what training collars are allowed in the test (if any)?

is jumping on the person considered a disqualification?

What about the reaction to the dog? What kind of bad behavior disqulifies for that

congrats! You should be extra proud!!

well done on both dogs

I used a choke chain collar,I don't think prong would be accepted....but I can be wrong :| Yes you have to teach your dog to not jumping on everybody,I had a hard time with Nic,cause he loves everyone, just go practice to your local petstore, and do not let him to being pet, until he sit.About the reaction on other dog,I guess they don't wanna see agression,or jumping out heel to greet the other dog?The GSD was shown very agressive behavior, that's why he didn't passed.I think the best is if you check out this topic from the CGC,Maryellen post it earlier.

Congrats! Where did you go for testing? I think Cookie my Lab Mix who will be turning 1 year this week should be ready for testing.

go to http://www.akc.org and type in cgc, then you can look up the testers in your area and email them asking when they are giving the next test.. alot of dog training places give the test after the 8 weeks of classes too.
