Spencer Township child mauled by pit bull

SPENCER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WTOL) - A dog mauling leaves a young Lucas County girl injured. The 4-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after an unprovoked pit bull attack.

It happened at the girl's home in the Oakview Court apartments in Spencer Township.

Officials says the dog attacked when the girl's mom called the family into the kitchen for supper. She was bitten on the leg, arm and face.

The pit bull is in the custody of the Lucas County dog warden. It will be put down sometime next week.

Bonnie Micthell of the Lucas County dog warden's office says the family doesn't know the dog's age and had only had it for a few weeks.

The family surrendered the dog and the warden's office is investigating for rabies.
