SAFETY HARBOR, FL -- Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a dog attack that left a 6-year-old boy with serious injuries.
According to deputies, the attack happened just before 6:00 Sunday evening at a park on Salem Street in Safety Harbor.
Deputies say the victim, Tydal Sugar, was at the park with his mother and their newly adopted pit bull, Tucker. Tydal reportedly stepped in an ant pile and he began screaming and flailing about.
Investigators say the dog responded to the boy's actions in an aggressive manner, biting him on the shoulder and head.
The victim's mother, Rosemary Sugar, was able to restrain the dog and call for help. Tydal was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Pinellas County Animal Control Officers were called to the scene to confiscate the dog. Investigators say the male dog was on a leash.
