A Peaceful Passing

Postby Violet » July 18th, 2008, 4:18 am

At a few minutes after midnight, Mom breathed her last breath. My husband sat holding her hand, he told her that we would take good care of her cat and she responded with a soft "thank you" and drifted off.

We had a peaceful day today overall. The Pastor came and she woke while he prayed for her peace to try and pray with him. Then tried to sing Amazing Grace with him. She told each of us at least once today that she loved us and we all told her we loved her.

I want to thank everyone for all of your kind words and prayers. This was not an easy road but one well worth travelling.

We love you Mom..very very much.

Oh Vi, I'm so sorry for you and your family's loss. At least she was able to go peacefully, in the comfort of a home, with her loved ones. :hug3:

I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day, tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Thank you everyone..my home already feels so empty and quiet. We have spent the last 24 hours being thankful for the amazing gift we were given last week by being able to bring her home. And nto just home, but she spent three days awake, fully with us, laughing, joking and giving and getting closure. Even by medical standards it was a miracle. They did not expect her to make it out of the hospital.

My MIL was..an interesting person. She was loud, often cussed like a sailor (quite creatively I might add) and never did she become a typical little old lady. I mean..when I first met her almost 17 years ago my MIL had platinum blonde hair, tons of make up, daggers for nails and her fingers dripping in flashy rings on every single finger. Did I mention she was holding a pool stick and standing outside a bar? Her over the top personality never stopped shining through.

She ADORED her Grandchildren and they all knew it. And in spite of any short comings she may have had, she made sure her adult kids knew she loved them as well. This past six months was a blessing of healing and forgiveness. We were hoping she was here to heal her physical body but that was possibly less important than the healing that actually took place.

Mom wrote down her favorite poem and it has become how we all choose to remember her..

by Sherrill Fulghum

Remember me
With smiles and laughter
And with a song
In your heart

Remember me
With a smiling face
And eyes that laugh
For that
Is how
I remember you!

Remember me
with a song
in your heart
And a smile
On your lips

Remember
The fun
That we had
And the songs
That we sang
For I remember you
With smiles and laughter
And a song in my heart.
