I am in Macomb, IL and look who came to our shelter today!

Postby HappyChick » July 17th, 2008, 8:40 pm

Her name is Galaysia and she is a 2-3 yo American Staffordshire Terrier. Our ACO rescued the poor baby from a trailer *extremely hot inside and no ventilation or air* where she had been abandoned several days ago. Her family was evicted and left her there. The neighbor called the shelter and has been feeding Galaysia SOME, but the poor girl is very underweight, completely flea infested, and has a skin condition that has not been treated. She had so many fleas on her! They were all over and her skin is full of bites. She has two good sized lesions, one on her forehead and one on her neck from the skin condition. According to the neighbor (who didn't know the name of the skin condition) it is supposed to be treated by a cortisone shot once a year.? She has also had at least one litter. She got a flea bath right away and some Frontline. Let me tell you....this girl was sooooo good! She was scared of the hose at first, then she loved the water, it must have been a cooling relief. She was absolutely good as gold throughout the flea bath. She was scared when I started to walk her to her pen, but she cooperated nicely. The neighbor said Galaysia is a sweetheart and good with kids and cats. This girl is going to make someone very happy!

Excuse the crappy pics - camera phone.

Update ~ Galaysia is doing great. The lesions seem to be drying up. Galaysia is very happy despite being in the shelter (it's gotta be cooler than a closed up trailer in 90+ degree weather!). She loves every bit of attention she gets, loves to play, enjoys her walks, and is barking some now. She is also starting to gain some weight. I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow. :D

New Pics! Isn't she beautiful? She looks so much better than the day she came in. She's got a great personality too - playful, inquisitive, somewhat demanding of attention, but overall a calm girl.

Update ~ Galaysia's spots/lesions are healing very nicely. They have dried up and are just pink spots now. She will be getting a cortisone shot soon. She is heartworm negative. She's not gaining any more weight, so I talked to Lisa (AC) about the possibility of worms and she started her on wormer. Lisa's sister-in-law loves pitbulls and is extremely interested in adopting Galaysia, so I'm pretty sure she will be going to her forever home soon!

BIG UPDATE ~ Yesterday, Galaysia went to a rescue in Southern Missouri! The lady from the rescue picked her up along with 3 other dogs. Reports are that Galaysia is very happy and was going to the vet today for a steroid shot and check up. Now she can get the care she needs and they will find her a good home. Many thanks to all who sent good thoughts Galaysia's way!
