Chula Vista is San Diego County’s second largest city. Located seven miles south of downtown San Diego and seven miles north of the busiest international border crossing in the world, Chula Vista is the crossroads of the San Diego/Baja region.

The City of Chula Vista is seeking an Animal Control Manager to plan, organize, direct and manage the Animal Care Facility operations within the Public Works Department. This position will ensure the enforcement of State and local laws relating to animal control services; investigate complaints; oversee animal care and adoptions, facility maintenance, contract services, field operations and administrative staff and coordinate public education and marketing programs. Responsibilities also include building collaborative relationships with community groups and industry professionals along with providing information to the public. This position provides highly complex staff assistance to the Director of Public Works as it relates to the Animal Care Facility.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in business management, public administration, zoology, animal science or a closely related field and five years of responsible management level experience in the operation of a municipal or non-profit animal care facility, including two years of supervisory responsibility.

Emergency Services Director of Field Operations

The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection agency, is seeking a Director of Field Operations to manage and direct field rescue and emergency sheltering operations. Additional duties include helping to plan, develop, and implement strategies to carry out the HSUS’ field rescue and emergency shelter program; develop and maintain operational contacts with individuals and organizations throughout the country; present training programs throughout the country for volunteers and organizations; forge relationships with national and state-level animal protection professionals to develop standard response protocols; and write internal situation reports. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, experience with animal handling and knowledge of animal protection issues; experience with management of emergency response situations; training to ICS300 or commitment to take and pass required courses within six months; strong organizational, oral, written and public speaking skills; must have ability to work around a variety of animals, and perform hard physical work. The City of Mesa currently has two (2) openings for the position of Animal Control Officer. This position performs duties that include enforcement of City codes such as: leash laws, livestock restrictions, licensing requirements, barking nuisance, vicious dog ordinances, and performs tasks related to the care, control and licensing of animals.
