Food, Fitness and how to keep them healthy.

Postby SisMorphine » June 2nd, 2008, 5:38 am

I was at work and training all day yesterday, got home very late, went to bed. Woke up to find a VERY white tummy staring me in the face. Wally's stomach is usually a deep purple color. I lift his gums, white. He has to have some sort of frickin' GI bleed and now I'm panicking. I already have a call in to my vet but I just don't know what to do in the meantime. What to expect. smurf smurf smurf.

Alyssa, I'm sorry, please keep us informed...My thoughts are with you...and I'm praying that's not what it is. How is he acting?

He's acting pretty normal, and is actually ravenous. I can't wait for the vet to get into the office. I left her a message and emailed her.

I don't know what to say....

Just wait for the vet and hopefully it won't be anything uber-serious. Call if you need to talk.

Back from the vet. He definitely has a GI bleed going on, luckily he's not at anemic levels yet. We're doing a deworm just in case it's whips, which is unlikely. We're also treating him for ulcerated intestines (pepcid, sulcrafate) in addition to the flagyl he's already on. After hitting him with this round of stuff if he isn't better then we can assume it's cancer :(

The upnote is that his appetite has been fantastic since last night.

Damn dog. Making momma cry all morning long.

How long before you know if the stuff is working or not?

I'm glad he's eating, at least.

That's a good question. Apparently I didn't even bother asking I was so overwhelmed. I'm calling her tomorrow to update her so I'll ask her then.

Awe, poor old man! I hope he'll be ok...
Definitely need to find what's going on with him though. I think I missed a part of his "adventures" but has he had an ultrasound?
