The bill has been assigned to a committee, so on Tuesday (Monday's a holiday) I will call and figure out what the next step is to go talk to the committee.

Thanks for the continued support everyone!

Most ACO's and Humane Societies are anti-BSL..so do get in contact with them and make sure they know the bill is out there and ask them if they would be willing to support you? Most will have to get the okay from their politico's before doing anything, so depending on the who and what is driving it you may have some spotty success.

In Oregon in 2005 they tried a run at BSL and we managed to get it altered to a dangerous dog statutue that addresses behaviors and owners not do breed, it took a lot of work and cooperation, but we got something we could all live with.

Alright, next update. The head of the committee this bill has been assigned to is David Daniels, 614.466.3506. I spoke with his office and his assistant told me the committee isn't planning on meeting until AT LEAST the end of summer. He put me down on an email list and I'll be notified when the committee is going to meet.

I'm thinking Mr. Daniels would be a good person to send some letters to, so I'll get his contact info.

Alright, this guy is the chair of the committee that will be hearing this bill. He's a Republican, which I'm hoping is good as it's normally the Dems who like BSL.

So, this means you guys are safe until at least the end of summer. You guys should hopefully be up here by then anyways, right?

In the mean time, we can all do the letter thing and hopefully get this thing nixed before it comes to that.

I'd love to be up there by the end of summer. The police thing won't be finished by then, but maybe I can get something temporary.
I definitely still want this stupid bill nixed though - not everybody has the ability to just up and move out of state for their dog.

Question still--- Is it beneficial for a non-resident to write letters. If someone will help me figure out which letter to send I will do it. I am not good at putting my thoughts down on paper where they make sense and know what exactly what to say. I have looked at the sample letters but don't know which one is best for a non-resident to send.

Some cities in Ohio already ban pit bulls, and now the breed could get banned from the entire state. Do you think pit bulls should be banned in Ohio?

I hadn't seen that! I'd be interested to see what the changes entail - I can't find them.

Thanks for posting that! Definitely good news. :)
