OHIOANS ALERT!!!

If you haven't seen this thread yet, check it out: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=23536

Representative Yates has proposed a bill to outright ban pits in Ohio. We would have 90 days to do something with our dogs, and then search warrants would be executed to confiscate them. Within 10 days of confiscation, they will be euthanized.

We need to stand up for our dogs NOW. I am going to be contacting the House of Reps to find out how I can testify in front of the committee. Once I get the info, I will post it here.

We can't stand by and let this bill pass. If you're interested in helping, please let me know and we can maybe get a group together to go down to Columbus.

I'm not even IN Ohio and I'd be interested in attending whatever I could to help. This bill is absolutely ridiculous.

Thanks you guys. I'll keep you updated.

Kendall, I hope I'm in NY by then too. Honestly, if I'm not, I may be begging some major favors to have Inara sent up there. My day at work is just shot - I totally can't concentrate on anything else right now. I'm going to contact the local dog warden and see what he thinks - if he's anti-bsl I would think it would help to have some dog wardens from major cities speak out against the bill. I'm nauseous.

Some ACO's that are anti-BSL would definitely help! Vets, ACOs, Trainers, etc.

I can't imagine living in Ohio and facing this. I really cannot :(

You are moving to Rochester?????

Hopefully *fingers crossed*. I took the police exam when I was up there a couple weeks ago.

I didn't think about vets and trainers - thanks!

The physical exam is a breeze if you do a little prep beforehand. I did it no problem.

Liz, if Inara needs somewhere to go we'll help you figure something out. Don't worry about that for one minute longer.

I think the "Rochester Contingent" could make a road trip to support you if you need us there.

I just took a peak at the physical fitness test for the RPD. (I'm sure Demo will chime in on this one) but is that the only physical fitness test they give you? Most police officers I know are in great shape but that test seems like a bit of a joke (sorry to take this so off topic)

Michelle I know it's not that bad but I did no prep  I haven't given up totally and will likely take the test again.

I was in the military, I should know that it isn't all that bad but I just wasn't up to taking it and didn't want to embarrass myself. I could do the sit ups and run but I'm a little weak on the push ups

Matt, yes that's the test they give you. I'm sure the academy is more intensive but that's how they weed them out in the beginning.

Unfortunately, 60% of females do not get beyond that point.

Sorry for jackin!

Oh Liz, I am so sorry. I am just having a hard time with people just making laws that are not going to help the problem and hurt the people that are trying to help the problem. I just don't understand this country anymore :nono:
Hopefully you can't get the hell out of there, and don't worry about Inara I am sure that she will be well taken care of by all her Aunts and Uncles.

The test is pretty much a joke. The test to get out of the acadamy is much more stringent.

I ran a pre-academy last summer and did the test and its not bad, I even passed.

Don't worry about Inara for a second, there are plenty of us here who would take her in a second. Layla wouldn't even kill her :)

And like Michelle said, if need be, we'll all pile up and come do whatever we can. :hug3:

Pleas let me know how it all goes, I live in PA and will help you get Inara out of there if needed, I can meet you somewhere and pick her up, what ever the outcome! She can stay in my second living room in the basement until you are ready for her or you both can stay, it will be tight, but it can be done...Please also let me know what I can do, write a letter or something? I am so upset and I do not live there, but you never know when its coming here or anywhere for that matter! :(
You laugh because I'm different...........

Alright, quick update. Just called an information hotline and she said that the bill hasn't been assigned to a committee yet. Once it's been assigned there will be info available as to who to contact and how to testify in front of the committee at a hearing.

This website will have the updates regarding the bill as they are available: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/Bill ... 8_I_N.html

Thank you again for all your well-wishes and offers to come rescue Inara! They mean so much to me!
