RIP Eight Belles

Postby katiek0417 » May 3rd, 2008, 11:55 pm

Eight Belles, the first filly to run the Kentucky Derby since 1999, came in 2nd tonight behind Big Brown. However, she broke both front ankles, and was euthanized on the track...

She got to run with the big boys before she died...and she gave a great performance...she will be remembered for that...

Wasn't that just the saddest thing? I wanted to be happy for the winner, but kept wanting to hear the update on her. Then the Vet came on and told everyone the bad news. :(

Yeah, 'cause I'm sure he's not beating himself up as it is, wondering if he could've done more. And I'm willing to bet my life as soon as he felt her take a weird step he tried to pull her up.

PeTA. :biggun:

Maybe, just maybe starting training yearlings is a tad too young. That poor horse. Apparently her trainer was really, really attached to her.

If the racing industry tried to encourage racing horses that are older than 3 there wouldn't be so many deaths on the track.

Of course, it's all about money, not the animals.

Here's Big Brown's hooves, held by glue so he could run, instead of letting him actually grow them : http://hoofcare.blogspot.com/2008/04/bi ... derby.html
Now let's just use a horse with crappy feet and breed him.
