Hurt Duck - Marine(Pits) To The Rescue!

If it's a non-human, non-Pit Bull, family member, post it here!

Postby amazincc » April 20th, 2008, 6:17 pm

So, earlier today Mick threw a hissy fit at the window and when he wouldn't shut up after I repeatedly yelled:" SHUT UP!" I went to investigate - and saw a small black terrier attack one of the ducks! >(
The woman who owns the dog had to pry the little bastard off the duck, literally. The duck was bleeding and OBVIOUSLY hurt, but the biotch just smacked her dog for snapping at her, and walked away. :cuss:
My vet is closed, I don't have a car - so I pm'd Jenifer (Marinepits) to ask what I should do in terms of first aid since she is an ACO, and mine wouldn't come out to help.
Jen found me a crapload of places and phone #'s, and after calling around for a while I found a place who sent an ambulance to pick up the injured duck!!!
His leg had been bitten, and his foot was torn in half (which I couldn't/didn't see :sad2: ), but he will go to a rehab and they will take care of him there. :)

Thanks, Jen, for having a heart, and spending the afternoon helping a lil' duck in Florida! :hug3:

Oh, yay! I am so glad for the little guy!

A duck ambulance -- who woulda thunk it? :lol3:

And YOU did all the work. All I did was make Google my friend.

LMAO The COPS just showed up at my door about a "domestic disturbance". LMAO

I called the non-emergency number first - like 3-4 hours ago. Phew, I'm glad I wasn't laying here w/a serious injury.
They were a little perturbed when I started laughing. :P

Well, Mick had to protect the duck-puppy, Mom.

Good for you 2 for taking care of that poor duck. And as for the lady who just walked off and left the poor injured duck...well, I'm just gonna shut up since this is a family forum. :cuss: :mad2: :nono:

Mickey was trying to tell you about his duck puppy in trouble.

I would have had to say something to that woman.

Good for you for helping out! And thank god it wasn't Eugene. :o

I would've HAD to let Beast loose if it had been Eugene. I'd have even held the nasty little yapper while he mauled the woman. :mad2:

I am sure it was.

I say I would have said something but I would have got to her and the things that would come out of my mouth would not have made a bit a sense. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Duck Update:

The duck was hurt worse than I thought... he has several deep bite wounds in his rear end, bite wounds to his leg, and a shredded foot that might have to be amputated. :(

I found out who the woman is whose dog attacked the duck, and I'll be filing a police report. >(

The ducks are considered "pests", but we DO have a leash law, and the rehab is checking into what other laws may apply.

oh no!! That poor duck! What will happen if his leg has to amputated? I've seen birds function w/one leg before but never a duck.

That lady needs to pay for the vet bill the duck is receiving and be given a stern lecture about leash laws!

We have a lot of one-legged ducks around here. They hop, but they can still fly, swim and function "normally" otherwise.

This particular duck will stay at the rehab for the remainder of his life, if he makes it.

That's so sad. :( Are you gonna be able to prove that her dog did it?

Poor little duck puppy. I hope they are successful in making the lady pay for the duck's vet bills, and hopefully a fine for neglecting to obey the leash law.

The duck had to be euthanized. :sad2: :(

I filed a police report and the rehab is also pursuing charges.
I am SO pissed off at that woman for letting her dog run loose.
