Looks like you have .htaccess setup to deny directory listings.
Make sure the absolute path is http://pitbulltalk.com/images/smilies/xxxxxxx.gif
If you are using redirection as I often do, then it might redirect from:
http://pitbulltalk.com/phpBB3/images/sm ... xxxxxx.gif
to:
http://pitbulltalk.com/images/smilies/xxxxxxx.gif
You might need to include the /images directory in that redirection.

Alternatively under the same server settings page, if you want to leave the script path alone (not sure what other problems it will have) you can setup the individual directory paths in the section above that. Add /phpBB3 to the 4 paths at the top of that section.
I would recommend changing the script path though.
