I wasn't going to post about this here

Here is where we can discuss canine cancers and treatment options to create a support system for those dealing with the disease.

They want her there between 8-9 am. My father-in-law is going to come by and get her and bring her in for me because her vet is further away and she will need to go in about the time I need to get the boys to school. I trust him with her and I'm sending him with the pre-op benadryl request and I KNOW he'll report back to me with anything they tell him. He uses this same vet for their giant schnauzer. We'll be picking her up, though.

How long did Mick have to keep his stitches in?

Mick got stitches and staples... the stitches dissolved on their own, I took out the staples myself... maybe ten days later or so?
The incision was very deep and they stitched it from the inside out, then stapled the top... He has a long scar, but most of the fur grew back and unless you know what to look for you can hardly see it.

The actual surgery took about 30-40 minutes, and it was... not for the squeamish.
Don't be surprised if the incision is big... they usually remove some of the healthy tissue as well, to make sure that they get "everything".

I'm glad you have a good vet whom you trust, and that Ella is in capable hands!
I will be sending TONS of good thoughts her way. :hug3:

Ella left about 15 minutes ago to have her surgery.
She'll be fine and we're going to go pick her up after 3 pm. I wrote out instructions/info for the vet since I'm not 100% sure who is going to be handling her today. I left info about pre-op benadryl and her animal aggression and told them that it will stress her out to be kenneled around other dogs. They'll probably put her in the office with them while she wakes up. That's what they did when she got her teeth cleaned and her mole removed. I left them my cell number and told them to call after the surgery.

I'm a freakin' spaz about my dog.

thanks, guys!

I'm going to be fine as long as Ella is going to be fine. Which I'm sure she'll be good.

I am currently washing her bedding and blanket so it'll be clean when she comes home. I have a frozen kong waiting for her when she comes home or is ready to have it.

Dang, you'd think she was one of my HUMAN children going in for surgery!

She's back. And fine. Whiny and grumbly, but fine. She won't take any ice or water. She just wants her ball and to be near us. I don't want to give her any pain medication until she gets at least some water into her tummy. She's laying on her bed with her ball in her mouth and she is trying to hold her head up and her eyes open, but she'll be failing at that soon.

How many stitches? Does she have to wear the dreaded cone?

I'm not sure how many stitches. I forget what they told us. But I took pics and as soon as my camera battery charges, I'll post. The area is about...5" in length.

I broke down and gave her a frozen kong with only pieces of raw lamb steak in it. She wouldn't take any water or ice, but she'll take the kong. I want something in her tummy before I give her anymore pain meds and she keeps whining at us, so I know it's hurting her. She's whining as she's working on her kong right now.

Oh!!! And no dreaded cone. They said they don't believe she's going to bother the stitches. They said they have more problems with cats bothering stitches than dogs. I'm home all week, so I'll be able to keep an eye on her.
